Ailanto is located in Fortuna de Bagaces, about 50 kilometers from the Liberia International Airport (45 Minutes by car) right at the foothills of the Miravalles Volcano in the province of Guanacaste. We are situated 190 km from San Jose', the capital city of Costa Rica and lies along the Inter-American highway just north of Liberia.

 

 

At the airports of San José and Liberia there are numerous car rentals from around $50 USD per day. You can also take a taxi from Liberia Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport, which will cost around $50 USD. All taxi drivers accept U.S. dollars, but may give you change in Colones.

From San Jose:

Take the Pan Americana Highway north past the airport in Alajuela, towards Liberia. Instead of the busy Pan Americana you can also take the newly opened Caldera Highway from San José to Puntarenas, this will save you more than 1 hour. The toll is about $4 USD.
Follow this road until it turns into the Pan Americana, follow the Liberia signs. Travel northwest, pass Las Juntas, Cañas, until arriving at Bagaces. Exit right towards Bagaces town center, and from there follow the directions below.

 

From Liberia:

From the airport, head east towards Liberia. At the large intersection before heading into the center of Liberia, take a right at the Pan Americana Highway. Head southeast about 30 kilometers until arriving at Bagaces. Exit left towards Bagaces, and from there follow the directions below.

 

Upon Arrival in Bagaces:

Follow the main street past the center of town (church and park on the right) until you reach the main road to Fortuna and Guayabo. Take that road until you reach the intersection to Fortuna (about 25 km right side). Follow the main road until you reach the center of Fortuna (stop sign with a soccer field on the right hand side).
From there turn right and follow the main road to the Miravalles Geothermal Plant (next possible left) follow that road for 1.4 km (second possible right turn), turn right, head 500 meters in and the entrance to Ailanto Wellness Resort and Spa is on the right. You cannot get lost as several Ailanto banners will lead you to your new home.

 

 

 

Arrival By Bus:

If you like travelling by bus, take a bus to La Fortuna de Bagaces (Transportes Upala) at the main bus station in San José called San Carleños. Make sure you don’t take the bus to La Fortuna de San Carlos! The buses leave twice a day at 5.30 a.m. and at 2 p.m. The trip takes about 5 hours for a ticket price of around $6 USD (3,050 Colones).
